Boon Khao Saak - Malai Mai Phai (บุญพวงมาลัยไม้ไผ่ วัดกกต้อง กาฬสินธุ์) Kalasin Duan Sib or the tenth lunar month (September) is the month for celebrating Boon Khao Saak one of the merit making tradition in Isaan or the Northeast of Thailand and the receiving of sermons, make offerings of food and meals to Monks.
In Isaan there are many provinces which has thier own style of Boon Khao Saak especially in Kalasin one thing that crawed tourists to see is Malai Mai Phai. Malai Mai Phai or "bamboo garland" is something interesting they use pieces of bamboo then weave to make it look like flower this is something that they have to learn since they were young. Malai Mai Phai is the bamboo flowers and hang consumer products on it such as chilli, eggplant, washing powder, candy and snack. After receiving sermons they will do parade of Malai Mai Phai around the ubosoth or temple for 3 rounds and offering to Monks.
This tradition is an old tradition that held in Wat Kok Tong Kut Wa, Kuchinarai District, Kalasin. Malai Mai Phai or "bamboo garland" nowaday are sale as OTOP products to worldwide.
Malai Mai Phai tradition is held twice a year first in Duan Kao or the ninth lunar month (August) and Duan Sib or the tenth lunar month (September).
