Wat Phra Chao Ton Luang, located in Amphoe Ban Hong, houses an important and renowned Buddha image of which the name, “Phra Chao Ton Luang,” appears in Lamphun province’s slogan.

Phra Chao Tong Luang is a large ancient Buddha image which has the lap width of 7.50 meters and is 9.50 meters in height. Housed in the temple’s vihara, the image was carved in 1366 by Phra TheraSirirajawaso, a monk from Chiang San. It is believed that by worshipping the image, the worshipers will be protected from any unfortunate events. Thus, the Buddha image is also called “Phra Chao Leek Khro” (In Thai, ‘leek’ means to prevent and ‘khro’ means bad luck.)

Once stepping into the vihara in which Phra Chao Ton Luang is housing, the visitors will be impressed by the mural paintings depicting the story of Lord Buddha, as well as, the history of Phra Chao Ton Luang. Each painting has a description which will provide the visitors an understanding on the paintings.

However, Wat Phra Ton Luang is not only the place for merit making; it is also a location for many interesting attractions such as its beautiful ubosot, historical monuments and shrines.

Wat Phra Chao Ton Luang is located at Tambol Sri Tia, Amphoe Ban Hong, Lamphun. Visitors can get there via the Highway No. 106, turn right to Highway No. 1010 and drive further for 6 kilometers approximately.
