Thai Chinese Memorial - Santikhiri Village, also known as Doi Mae Salong or Mei Se Le in Amphoe Mae Fah Luang, Chiang Rai, means a land of happiness. It used to be a village of the past Chinese nationalist soldiers (Kuomintang) in the 93rd division and now is a Thai Chinese Memorial. The Chinese soldiers helped Thai officials fighting against Communists in Doi Luang, Doi Kao and Doi Phamon area, Chiang Rai during 1971-1985 and in Kao Ya area in 1981 before finally acquiring Thai nationality. There is a museum and a memorial built with love and faith of the people to remind the goodness of the past Chinese nationalist soldiers who helped saving the land as well as to promote tourism in Mae Salong.

Walking into the memorial, you will see ‘Past Heroic Chinese Nationalist Soldiers of Northern Thailand Museum’, which is the central building designed elaborately with Chinese architectural style. Inside, there is an ‘spirit sign’ of the deceased soldiers. The building on the left has the first room of museum building which tells the background of the Chinese soldiers before coming to Thailand, mainly based on date and time of the battle. There are models showing battle field, routes for moving the troops and also essentials of the soldiers in that period of time. The building on the right has the second and last room of the museum showing how Chinese association helps aiding the victims in terms of thing and scholarships.

For those who are interested, you can go to visit this memorial not only for the beautiful architects but you will also learn the background of Thai Chinese people who benefited Thailand. The Memorial is open daily, 8.00 - 17.00. fee is required
