The museum was originated by Mr. Prateep Prateepusanon. He does not involve much in Buddha image business circle; however, since he used to do the concession and manage international trade ports, he is then well-known among this business circle. He has been collecting Buddha images since he was 20 years olds. When he had a number of collections to exhibit, he constructed this museum with the budget of over 40 million baht on this vast area. He has a plan of developing this place into a residence, a hotel and a department store.
The exhibitions inside the museum display various period of over 500 Buddha images in the history from Kantarat, Tawaravadee, Chiang Saen, Sukhothai, Uthong, Lopburi, Ayutthaya to Rattanakosin period. In addition, there are 3 sets of Benjapakee, Benkapakee Yod Kun Pol, Phra Rounglangrangpheern, every image of Pra Somdej Wat Rakang, Phra Kring Pawareth (one of the 22 images in Thailand), Phra Kring from China, Phra Kring from Khmer, Phra Kring from Wat Suthattepwaram, Phra Kring from Wat Bwarn Niwes, Phra Somdej jitlada and every images of Luang Pu Thuat. Also, there are a collection of coins such as Luang Po Klaan’s and over 2,000 coin’s styles of King Rama V. Another highlight includes the Buddha image carved from over million-year-old jadestone with the weight of approximately more than 8 tons. This place is then a must for those people who love the art of creating Buddha images. The museum is open every day from 09.00 to 17.00.
To visit, from Chiangrai district in Chiangrai province, take Phaholyothin road and then take the highway 1016. When you reach the end of the road, the museum is on your left.
