Bang Khun Sai Mangrove Resource Development

 Bang Khun Sai Mangrove Resource Development Station Number 6 is located in front of Wat Bang Khun Sai. It is under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and is established in order to manage the mangrove’s resource to preserve and restore with community’s help, to protect and suppress mangrove intrusion in 56 million square meters of Petchaburi province and also to promote knowledge to people to raise awareness of mangrove protection. Therefore, the fertility of sea and seacoast resources is preserved and can be used for making sustainable benefits. The ecological tourism activities of the station are as followed:

Mangrove walking route to study nature is suitable for those who are interested in mangrove and seacoast ecology. There are signs indicating the plant species and the little guides will provide information to tourists.

Along the trail, tourists will have a chance to experience the beauty of mangrove forest, various plants on the seacoast and many animals such as birds, blenny fish, fiddler crabs, snapping shrimps and other seacoast animals.

Mangrove reforestation is another activity opened for those who join as a group or family. The station staff

will prepare the seedlings while the little guide will take you to the plant. There is small amount of fee, just only 10 Baht for taking shower to clean yourselves after the activity. The maintenance and little guide fee is up to each tourists.

Those who wish to stay overnight at Bang Khun Sai fishery community, please contact the station in advance.

Moreover, tourists can observe the local fishermen lifestyle since Bang Khun Sai is well-known as the biggest natural ark shell habitat in Thailand. How fishermen collect ark shells by shoving on board can be widely seen as it is folklore knowledge to do one’s job. Tourists can give a try to shove on board as it is quite entertaining activity.

Moreover, tourists can see Thek Lane boat which is a long-tailed boat usually goes on the wet mud. As the mud is not too dry, the smoothness of the mud allows the boat to go as fast as it goes on water. However, driving and controlling skills are needed.
